March Book Reviews!
Spring is Springing! So it’s time to enjoy a good book or two. Here are my picks for the season!
Death is But a Dream: Finding Hope and Meaning at Life’s End written by Christopher Kerr, MD, Ph.D. is an empowering look at the end of life process. I have long wanted a standing argument from the medical field in favor of dying with grace and dignity. Dr. Kerr pleads an amazing case for the healthcare industry to re-evaluate how we treat the dying. Instead of life at all costs, he describes case after case of compassion, dignity and deep appreciation for this powerful transition. Stories of dreams, visions, family healing and loving appreciation for the right to let go with peace and serenity are beautifully told in this must-read book.
Leah Stanley tells an unforgettable story of caregiving and faith in Goodnight, Sweet: A Caregiver’s Long Goodbye. At 29 years of age and newly married, she is faced with the challenging heartbreak of caring for both of her grandparents. Love of family and her unwavering belief keep her going even during the darkest times. Gratitude and healing are the gifts of this caregiving journey and we are blessed to have her share them with us.
The Stemwinder: Stories of a Faithful Carer Manager, written by Denise M. Valerio and Nicole Forston is the personal memoir of the experiences of a professional Health Care Manager. Here is an in-depth look at the world of caregiving through the lens of an intensely personal journey. This roller coaster of a ride memoir shows an interesting first hand take on what it means to make caring for others an emotional commitment.
