Exercise!
Caregiver Warrior
Ok, we all know the importance of exercising. We hear about it everyday. From Dr. Oz to blogs we get the message that physical activity is extremely important. As I write this I am feeling so guilty that I have not been to be gym or doing my regular walks because of the bitter cold. Which of course is a wonderful excuse. But here comes spring! With the birth of YouTube I have no right to complain about the weather. There are hundreds of free workout yoga, Pilates, cardio and tai chi videos that I can access right at home in my living room. And my refrigerator is just a room away so I could treat myself as soon as I’m done with a snack! Which of course would be the healthiest of snacks. The bottom line is that some form of getting up and moving around is absolutely necessary in the Caregiver Warrior world. Exercise is a weapon. My entire mood can change when I exercise. It’s good for my body and great for my mind and mood. It inspires me. It makes me feel good and proud of myself. It is an esteem-able action and really radical self care. It clears the cobwebs and anxiety out of my mind and makes me stronger physically. It also inspires me to eat and drink better. I crave less junk and sugar on the days I work out. It’s amazing! Those you care for might even cheer you on and watch you do a routine. In some cases they be healthy enough with a doctors permission to do some chair yoga or chair tai chi with you! So if you can’t get out or think you can’t find the time to exercise, check out YouTube for easy 10 to 20 minute workouts or yoga. Buy or rent a video from your local library or insist upon taking a 10 minute walk. Do jumping jacks in the living room! Find a way to move around and get the mind, body and soul flowing. Do it everyday even for 10 minutes. But do it! It will save your life.
